The ancient Sergiev Posad is known not only for the historical and architectural complex of the Trinity-Sergievskaya Lavra. Many people come here to visit the unique museums. Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve "Horse yard"
In 1920, a museum was created at the Lavra, whose employees were tasked with preserving unique exhibits of ancient Russian art. In the early 2000s, most of the exhibits collected here were moved from the Lavra to other buildings more adapted for museum and exhibition work. Today the museum collection numbers over 110 thousand items. The richest collections are housed in four buildings in the city center.
The Sacristy located in the Lavra displays a collection of icons, handwritten books, church utensils and Liturgical fabrics. Here you can see the Royal Doors, created by an artel under the leadership of Andrei Rublev, shoes that belonged to Sergius of Radonezh, as well as M. Nesterov's painting "Passion Week".
The large new museum complex "Horse yard" exhibits archaeological finds made on the territory of the Sergiev Posad region. Here you can learn about how the Troitsko-Sergievskaya Lavra was founded, and about the life of Sergei Radonezhsky, see a collection of decorative and applied art from the 18th century, and a collection of Russian nesting dolls. This museum also hosts permanent exhibitions on the types of Orthodox monasteries and the traditions of decorating Russian stoves.
In the main building of the museum-reserve there is an excursion department and shift exhibitions of painting, graphics and sculpture are held. And the local history department of the museum tells about the history of Sergiev Posad.

The Moscow Orthodox Theological Academy has its own museum of church artifacts and works of art, which is called the "cabinet". The richest collection gathered here occupies 12 rooms. The guests are presented with rare icons, handwritten and printed books, utensils for worship, personal belongings of church hierarchs and ascetics, as well as a collection of paintings, graphic works and small plastics. Guided tours of this museum are conducted by students of the academy and seminary.

The amazing collection of toys in Sergiev Posad is loved not only by children. It is pleasant for adults to look at the collections exhibited here. After all, everyone keeps the memory of their favorite toys from childhood. An unusual museum appeared in the city in 1931. It is based on old toys collected in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by the talented museum expert Nikolai Dmitrievich Bartram.
Today, museum expositions are occupied by a two-story red-brick mansion, where the students of a commercial school used to receive their education. Some of their exhibits were transferred here from the Livadia Palace in the Crimea, the Alexander Tsarsko-Selo Palace and the Moscow Stroganov School. In the museum you can see samples of Russian folk toys, traditional toys for the New Year and Christmas holidays, toys from Western Europe and the East, as well as a collection of portraits of children painted by famous artists. In addition, the museum displays toys that were played by children who lived during the Soviet era. Puppet shows are held here on Sundays. And the museum staff conduct master classes on making rag dolls for children.

The Ethnographic Museum was created in the city in 2006, thanks to the local artist Viktor Bagrov. It all started with the antiquities placed in his art workshop, which in former times were traditionally used by peasant families. Now the museum occupies a one-story wooden house with carved platbands.
Samovars, metal trays, irons, tuesa, birch bark boxes, candlesticks, kitchen mills, bottles, shtoffs and lamps are exhibited here. The museum contains a unique glass chess set, made on the theme of the Patriotic Won of 1812, an old gramophone with gramophone records and samples of decorative minerals from the Ilmensky Reserve. And on the second floor there is a small art gallery.

In an old merchant house, just 150 meters from the Toy Museum, there is a Museum of Folk Crafts. It was opened in 1991. This Sergiev Posad Museum is not at all the place where it is forbidden to touch everything. On the contrary, many corners have been created in it, adapted for creative pursuits. The museum displays samples of wooden toys, author's wooden sculptures of Russian saints, as well as paintings and books dedicated to Sergiev Posad. For visitors there are master classes on painting wooden toys.

Bogorodsky folk art craft

25 km north of Sergiev Posad, in the village of Bogorodskoye, there is a museum dedicated to the country's famous local craft - artistic woodcarving. The museum is located on the territory of a factory, whose craftsmen have been making carved wooden toys, sculptures, panels and furniture for over 100 years. Wooden sculptures are installed in front of the factory entrance and on its territory.
The museum collection is located in two halls and consists of more than three thousand exhibits. Here you can see the works of the masters of the old artel "Bogorodsky Carver", opened in the village in 1913, as well as the products of contemporary artists. Workshops on cutting, assembling and painting wooden toys are held for museum visitors.

The unusual collection features rare photographs, as well as beaters and tulip-shaped bells made of wood, stone and metal. The exposition tells about how bells appeared in Russia, and how their production developed. It is noteworthy that all the exhibits are active.
Visitors can learn how the bells were signaling instruments and what pieces of music were created specifically for the bells. In addition, during the excursion, they are shown the products of modern craftsmen and enterprises that specialize in the manufacture of bells.
One of the sections of the exposition is devoted to the large flat beater created at the end of the last century.They are used both as a musical instrument and for bilotherapy sessions. Vibrations of the bell can heal many diseases and improve the general psycho-emotional state of a person. The exhibition hall staff also conduct concerts and master classes on the belfry.
