In the eastern part of the former settlement, a few steps from the Lazarevsky five-domed church, there is the Church of Antipius with an elegant bell tower.
Short story
Initially, Sretenskaya stood on the site of the Antipievskaya church. In the scribal book of Suzdal from 1628, it is written as follows: “in prison from Monastery of the Robe on the left side there is a church with a feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the building of parish people. " In 1745, the wooden Sretensky temple was replaced by a stone one and renamed the Church of Antipius, Bishop of Pergamon... The Hieromartyr Antipas, who lived during the time of the emperor Nero (1st century AD), is known for his spiritual exploits.
Tirelessly preaching the teaching of Christ, Antipas refused to worship the pagan gods, for which he accepted a martyr's death - the priests threw him into a red-hot furnace in the temple of Artemis, where they usually offered sacrifices to idols.
Antipiev Church architecture
Like all the winter temples of Suzdal, the Church of Antipius is small in size, simple in structure and modestly decorated. The building is a low rectangle elongated to the east, covered with a gable roof and topped with one dome on a thin drum. From the east, a semicircular apse adjoins the main volume of the church, and a bell tower from the west. Exactly thanks to the bell tower the ensemble of "paired" Lazarevskoy and Antipievskaya churches is one of the most recognizable in Suzdal.
In its composition, it resembles the bell tower of the St. Nicholas Church, located in the southeastern part Suzdal Kremlin... On the quadrangle of the Antipievskaya belfry there is an octagon, completed with a concave tent-"pipe" with three rows of round dormer windows. The bell tower facades are decorated with colored rusticated pillars and beads.
